Alvarado Street Brewery And Adopting Hilo, A Baby Kitten / by Pay Thyself

This past weekend we decided to take a spontaneous trip to Alvarado Street Brewery in Monterey, California. We wanted to enjoy amazing beer, delicious burgers, and the ocean.

We left early Saturday morning and had breakfast at Loulou's Griddle In the Middle. The restaurant had been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri and their portions were huge.

Since we couldn't check into our hotel until 3pm, we went to Pacific Grove and read on the cliffs. My reading turned into a quick nap and waking up to a slightly sunburned forehad.

About two years ago, we discovered Alvarado Street Brewery when we were in downtown Monterey. We yelped the local breweries and decided to check them out. From their Mai Tai IPA to their Toucan Touch This (Sour Ale), we've enjoyed their beer ever since.

I love sour beers, so I got the Yeast of Eden Oodelallie and Yeast of Eden Sanity & Wits. enjoyed their Pineapple Mai Tai IPA, Halftime Treat, and Spaced Out (a collaboration with Moonraker Brewery in Auburn).

For the next 2 days, we enjoyed what Monterey and Pacific Grove had to offer. We brought our books and went to a local coffee shop called The Bookworks. They served organic coffee, fresh baked goodies, and had over 5,000 books that you can enjoy. After having some tea, we headed over to Animal Friends Rescue Project in Pacific Grove.

That’s when we met Hilo (his original name was nutter butter). We didn’t want to make an impulsive decision, so we waited until the next day to see if he’d still be there.

We are now proud parents of two cats, Hilo and Kona. Kona is 6 years old and Hilo, our newest addition, is 3 months.
